"Trust" ( Spoken Word)

It's so simple,
So basic,
Yet we lack it.
Interaction is nothing without it.
Unable to make a bond because the fact is,
We've missed the point.
The point that connects you and me,
And not just on a family tree;
That connects us all from A to Z,
And not just on eHarmony.

Trust.

Where did it go?
Or did we even have it years ago?
Afraid to go on the right track,
Because we might get stabbed in the back.
Locking our doors and checking it twice,
Like we're Santa Clause on a Christmas blight.
Putting a lock on our phone for protection,
Because your friends may use it as a weapon.
Hiding what belongs to us,
Because we lost our trust in all our lust.
But trusting each other is a must,
Because you cant spell trust without us.

Trust.

A firm belief in the reliability,
Truth,
Ability,
Or strength in someone.
Can you think of anyone?
I am sure you can,
Maybe the one that holds your hand.
But for how long?
I'm sorry but it's true,
People can back-stab you.
But this can change starting with you,
Because if you trust people,
They'll trust you.
You may get hurt but at least you'll live,
With your heart on your sleeve and something to give.

So let's break this cycle of deceit and start this world anew.
It doesn't start with them,
It starts with you.
Trust someone and you will see,
How great this world could be,
For you and me.
It's not that hard so don't make it be,
It's only the fear of the possibility,
Of losing everything.
Don't fear,
Trust.

Dance - River Dance

Riverdance is a theatrical  show consisting mainly of traditional Irish music and dance. Featuring Irish Dancing Champions Jean Buttler and Michael Flately, and with a score composed by Limerick native Bill Whelan, it originated as an interval performance during the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest. Shortly afterwards husband and wife production team John McColgan and Moya Doherty expanded it into a stage show, which opened in Dublin on 9 February 1995.

I chose Riverdance because when I was younger I had the pleasure of going and seeing one of their shows.  It was amazing to see these people dance!

Cinema - DearJohn by Nicholas Sparks

I chose a scene from Dear John written by Nicholas Sparks. I chose this movie because I have read all of Nicholas Sparks books and this is one of my favorite. This movie was made in 2010 and directed by Lasse Hallstom. Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried are the main actor actress in the movie. I chose a female love scene because in class we compared the different between male and female directed love scenes. There are many different camera angels used in this scene to get better emotional feel and connection to the characters and what is happening.

"Build Me Up Buttercup"

Why do you build me up (build me up) Buttercup, baby
Just to let me down (let me down) and mess me around
And then worst of all (worst of all) you never call, baby
When you say you will (say you will) but I love you still
I need you (I need you) more than anyone, darlin'
You know that I have from the start
So build me up (build me up) Buttercup, don't break my heart

"I'll be over at ten", you told me time and again
But you're late, I wait around and then (bah-dah-dah)
I went to the door, I can't take any more
It's not you, you let me down again

(Hey, hey, hey!) Baby, baby, try to find
(Hey, hey, hey!) A little time and I'll make you happy
(Hey, hey, hey!) I'll be home
I'll be beside the phone waiting for you
Ooo-oo-ooo, ooo-oo-ooo

Why do you build me up (build me up) Buttercup, baby
Just to let me down (let me down) and mess me around
And then worst of all (worst of all) you never call, baby
When you say you will (say you will) but I love you still
I need you (I need you) more than anyone, darlin'
You know that I have from the start
So build me up (build me up) Buttercup, don't break my heart

You were my toy but I could be the boy you adore
If you'd just let me know (bah-dah-dah)
Although you're untrue, I'm attracted to you all the more
Why do I need you so

I-I-I need you-oo-oo more than anyone, baby
You know that I have from the start
So build me up (build me up) Buttercup, don't break my heart

The Lion King on Broadway in New York

The Lion King musical on Broadway is one the most popular shows today, and with good reason. If you want to be transported to the magical world of the African animal kingdom then this is the place to be. Watch as the life-size animal figures come to life in the opening song “Circle of Life” and marvel at the very best of Broadway theater.

This Tony Award winning musical is largely based on the eponymous Disney movie that is known and loved by many. It tells the Hamlet-like tale of the lion cub Simba, prince of the African lions and heir to the throne. Simba “Just Can’t Wait to be King” and hopes he’ll be a brave king like his father. But after his father is murdered by his evil uncle Scar, Simba is forced into exile believing that he is to blame for his death. In exile he meets Timon the meerkat and Pumbaa the warthog and they teach him their philosophy of life, “Hakuna Matata” (“No Worries”) as he grows up. In the forest he realizes that he must reclaim the throne to save the lions and take his rightful place as “King of Pride Rock”. In order to do so, he must defeat Scar.

The thing that sets this musical apart and the reason why I still wish till this day ( Call me a Big Kid at Heart) is the costume design and scenery, which is truly impressive. The animals of the African Savannah are really brought to life: lions, antelope, hyenas, wildebeests, giraffes and many more right in front of your eyes. Coupled with Oscar-winning songs like “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” the musical fulfills its promise of sheer entertainment. Julie Taymor played a crucial role in the development of the musical working on additional music and lyrics, costumes, mask and puppet design as well as being the director. Her work helped define the Broadway blockbuster.

The Cathedral of Milan Italy

The cathedral of Milan Italy

Inside
Cathedral of Milan

Milan Cathedral is one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world and it's the second largest
Catholic Cathedral in the world. It's located in Milan,Italy. Aside from being one of the Gothic architecture in Italy, one of the main characteristic of the cathedral is the presence of thousand’s of spires. The cathedral has about 135 spires, each mounted with a statue depicting important people in Milan’s history and different characters in the bible. The highest spire and the tallest part of the cathedral measures up to 357 foot tall and holds the most important symbol of Milan the Madonina. It’s a golden statue that is so important that by law no any other building should pass the height of it.
It took five centuries to complete the cathedral, from 1386 until the 19th century when Napoleon Bonaparte ordered to finish the cathedral’s facade. You can just imagine all the European artists who were attracted to the project and participated in doing it. There are thousands of statues inside the cathedral, beautiful stained glasses and relics.
The Milan cathedral is a celebrated landmark for architecture, the arts, and for music lovers, name it the cathedral has everything to offer. It easily places itself as one of the famous places in Italy and a place I would love to visit for it meaning and history. ONE DAY! :)

The Gordo Art of Medellin

            The Gordo Art of Medellin

                                           Fernando Botero's sculptures, Medellin, Colombia

Botero Plaza, surrounded by the Museum of Antioquia and the Rafael Uribe Uribe Palace of Culture, is an outside park that displays 23 sculptures by Colombian artist Fernando Botero, who donated these and several other artworks for the museum's renovation in 2004.[1][2] The plaza is located in an area of MedellĂn, Colombia known as the "Old Quarter".

Medellin may be better known as the former haunt of Pablo Escobar, but its other internationally famous, and still living, resident is renowned sculptor and artist, Fernando Botero. Known for his oversized, ‘gordo’, sculptures and paintings of people, animals, abstracts and historical events Botero’s work is monumental.

Downtown Medellin can’t really be described as a delight. It has an abundance of bad architecture, streets packed with diesel-fume-pumping traffic, a lot of homeless people and on the walk there from our hotel we found ourselves on a street populated by trans-sexual sex workers and drunks. However, it does have the Plazoleta de las Esculturas which hosts twenty three of Botero’s amazing sculptures.
Botero’s work is larger than life in more ways than one, and makes a profound impression as you wander amongst them. Its refreshing to see people posing, touching and climbing on the artworks – not something you normally see in a gallery. All the works are sculpted from bronze and have pretty literal names ‘Dog’, ‘Cat’, ‘Woman with fruit’ and so on, and although his work often has a political/social meaning the ones we saw seemed funny and ironic.
